How do I dress my kid for outdoor school?

Learn how to dress your child for success!

“There’s no such thing as bad weather, only inadequate clothing.”

Step One:
Base Layer

This layer is worn tight to the skin and should be moisture wicking to maintain dryness.  100% Merino wool or wool like blend is best.  Avoid cotton.

Step Two:
Insulation

This layer is like insulation and is designed to maintain warmth.  Fleece pants and zip-up top are ideal.

Step Three:
Weatherproofing

This layer is designed to keep the elements out and the warmth in.  This layer should be windproof, waterproof and high-quality.

Cold Weather Essentials:

  • Proper Base, Mid & Top Layers
  • Warm Hat
  • Neck Warmer
  • Waterproof MITTENS (avoid gloves!)
  • Wool Socks
  • INSULATED Waterproof Boots (i.e. BOGS Brand)

Mid to Warm Weather Essentials:

  • Sunscreen (applied before arrival time)
  • Sun Hat
  • SPF Clothing
  • Light Rain Boots or Closed-Toe Sturdy Shoes
  • Waterproof Rain Suit or Outerwear

Daily Essentials:

  • Backpack (ideally water resistant)
  • Reusable Water Bottle
  • Packed Snack or Lunch
  • Full Change of Clothes
