A nature school is an alternative education model where most, if not all learning takes place outdoors. Nature school offers the social-emotional development that is so crucial in early childhood, combined with the wonder of nature. We use a place-based curriculum approach and hands-on activities to tie learning to the rhythms of the seasons and engage all the senses.
Our programs and curriculum are inspired by child led, place-based as well as play-based philosophies. We believe education through the experience of nature in partnership with these philosophies, provide the ultimate learning experience. Teachers use this inspiration to create engaging and hands-on learning experiences that weave many other subjects such as literacy, math, science, arts, geography and history.
We are located in the Wenas area 10 minutes from downtown Naches on a 40 acre homestead down a private drive.
We have Porta Pottys available on the premises for all staff and students which are cleaned on a weekly basis.
We are an outdoor school which is subject to all weather conditions. Weather reports are checked daily to ensure safe weather conditions for operation. Although we stand by the motto “There is no such thing as bad weather” there are some weather conditions that are not conducive to an outdoor learning environment such as poor air quality, extreme freezing temperatures, blizzard-like conditions, high winds, or storms. In case of the previous stated weather conditions, a notice of school closure will be sent out in the morning as soon as possible. We will also follow weather-related closure recommendations of the Naches School District. Please see the Family Handbook for more weather closure information.
